Instructors ![]() PETER ANTHONY: Hip Hop & Jazz Peter is the owner of Spotlight Dance Center, Spotlight Entertainment and Spotlight Dance Agency of Orlando, FL. He is a graduate of New World School of The Arts in Miami, Florida with a BFA in Dance. Peter has been dancing for over twenty five years. His dance credits include: Fredick Bratcher & Company; Anything Goes, Evita, Matador, "Star Street" - Caesar's Palace, Lake Tahoe; as well as various Concert Tours, Television Commercials and Music Video's. In 1994 Peter joined the Walt Disney World company at Disney-MGM Studio's in Orlando, FL as cast member and dance captain for "Beauty & The Beast". In 1996 Peter retired from Disney to focus all of his attention on his growing production company and dance studio. Peter has been choreographing and producing shows for Television, Conventions and Industrials, and for the Stage for the past twenty years, including the international TV Show "Charytin International" and "Next Big Star" with Ed McMann. Through Spotlight Entertainment, Peter has provided dancers and choreographed productions numbers for Universal Studios, Florida, Universal Studios, Hollywood, as well as, IBM, Alta Vista, Mass Mutual Insurance, Hewlett Packard, Mercury Dealers, Burdines, Best Buy, Matrix Hair, GoldWell, Converse, Autozone, Smith Kline Beechum, and Meeting Planners International just to name a few. As a Choreographer/Entertainment Producer, Peter is responsible for the creation of quality entertainment. In his position as Producer and Spotlight owner he has the opportunity of interacting with both large and small corporations. He is involved in the creation of show concepts, choreography, and final show production. Most recently, Peter has been choreographing for up and coming rap and pop groups such as Triple Deep; Phase 3 and Erica Rivera. His previous projects include choreographing a kid's television show at Disney-MGM Studios entitled "Dooley and Pals" which aired on PBS in May of 2000 and CD release concert for Triple Deep at HardRock Orlando. Peter has also produced his own Instructional "Hip Hop" video's for kids and adults. Video's now available. As owner of Spotlight Dance

children
and adults in the area of Video Hip Hop and Jazz. Peter's
electric
personality motivates and inspires his students. Peter has also
opened
Orlando's first official dance agency, Spotlight Dance Agency, which
has
provided work and performance opportunity for many Orlando
dancers.
In 1994 Margaret joined the cast of “Beauty and The Beast” at the MGM Studio’s, Orlando, FL. Later she joined the cast of “Pocahontas” where she served as performer and dance captain. Margaret and husband Peter Anthony opened Spotlight Dance
Center in
1996. Margaret has been teaching classical ballet, her first love, for
over twenty years. Apart from teaching, Margaret if a full time
mom
with two lovely children, Joshua and Sophia Anthony.
He cherishes the opportunity to create and continuously expanding his frame of reference. From a Musical Parody for Comedy Central to an Environmental Benefit Concert, from the Presidential Inaugural Celebration at The Kennedy Center to assisting with a performance at a Women's Mission in South-Central Los Angeles, and the HBO Movie, "And The Band Played On". Thouroughgood's stage work includes his memorable and thought provoking solo "Pigmeat", which chronologically reflects the African American experience through slavery, racism, drug addition and the struggle for empowerment. And, his "Social Circus" received acclaim as an ensemble piece "...that mirrored the empty abundance's fed to a society that accepts them like candy." Thoroughgood's experience allows him to share his expertise as a performer and as a guest lecturer at the University of Central Oklahoma. His "Philosophy & History of Dance" class focused on choreographing for the camera and how its style has changed through the years. Using various film examples (i.e. "Singing In The Rain", "West Side Story", "Cabaret") he was able to show the relevancy of social elements, the relationship between director and choreographer and the use of dance as it relates to the plot's evolvement. <>Myles' distinctive choreography has been seen by numerous audiences from Tokyo to Oklahoma City, on the networks, cable, and on concert stages such as the Universal Amphitheater.>
Hip Hop & Hip Hop Company Born in Dominican Republic and raised in Orlando, Karla began dancing at the age of six, and choreographing at the age of fourteen. Karla began her training in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Hip-Hop in Orlando. She attended a performing arts high school; Dr. Phillips High School Dance Magnet, and throughout her years became a teacher at the studio she once took class at, Spotlight Dance Center. Karla’s desire to dance and perform has given her the talent and ambition she has today. She has worked with Marcos Gomez from The Chocolate Factory, Rukus; the University of Central Florida Dance Team, back up dancer for upcoming artist; Dreey-C, as well as Univision. She has done numerous professional venues throughout Orlando, and has danced professionally with Latin dancers; Latin Heat Dancers. Karla currently attends the University of Central Florida as a Legal Studies major and Dance minor. Karla began teaching at Spotlight in 2006 and enjoys every part of her job! LINDSEY
JEAN :Adv Hip Hop, Jazz Adv, Lryical Adv, & Jazz Co Born and raised in DeLand Florida, Lindsey began dancing at the age of 6. Trained under Dee Dee Charleston-Palmer and Valerie Webb, she's spent more than 15 years learning tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, and hip-hop. At 8 years old, she began competing at competitions around the country including conventions such as Tremaine and LA Dance Magic. She ended her competing career at age 15 winning numerous group awards and a few personal scholarships along the way. Lindsey graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 2008 and was part of the LEAD Scholars Program. During her time at UCF, she was a dedicated member of Rukus Hip Hop Dance Team from 2004-2006. They had the opportunity to perform on BET’s “Spring Bling Revamped” TV show March of 2006, and from there, went to New York City and performed on BET’s 106&Park TV Show coming home as the winners of the Wild-Out-Wednesday competition. While in college, Lindsey began her teaching career as part of the faculty at Spotlight Dance Studio from January 2006-July 2008. It was there that she discovered her true passion for teaching, instructing students and adults of all ages in the styles of hip hop, jazz, ballet, lyrical/contemporary, and tap. During this time, Lindsey also fell in love with Salsa dancing and joined the professional dance team at Universal Mambo Dance Academy under the direction of Eric Baez. They travel domestically and internationally performing and celebrating the art of Mambo On2 and other Latin dancing. After college, Lindsey hopped on Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas in August 2008 and danced her way around the East/West Caribbean and South America. After an unforgettable six months at sea, she returned home in February 2009 and since then has been working with studios and dancers all over the Orlando area. Lindsey is thrilled to be returning to Spotlight and is looking forward to the students, creations, challenges, and of course, FUN that this season will bring. There truly is "…no place like home!"
SOPHIA ANTHONY: Hip Hop, Beg Tap, Jr. Hip Hop Co. Born in Miami, Florida, Sophia is of Puerto Rican descent on her mother’s side, and Cuban-Canadian on her father’s side. Sophia moved to Orlando at the age of one and started dancing at her parent’s studio at the age of three. She joined chorus in middle school and is currently in a vocal magnet in high school. Sophia has performed in various shows including Disney’s Epcot annual “Candlelight”; McDonald’s promotional campaign for “Kung-Fu Panda; principal for “Home Interiors” , Macy’s, Miss Teen Puerto Rico, numerous dance competitions and annual dance recitals just to name a few. In the summer of 2008 she auditioned and was accepted to attend a week-long “Rockette” summer intensive dance workshop in NYC, which conclude with a performance at the Beacon Theater. Though Sophia keeps a busy schedule with school, chorus events, weekly dance classes, vocal rehearsals with “Tootsville” and teaching for Spotlight dance studio, she still enjoys spending time with her friends and older brother Joshua.
TERESA AMBROSINO: 3/4, 5/6 BTJ, Jazz 3, & Adult Ballet Born in New York, Teresa has lived in Florida for the past 14 years. She started dancing at the age of 5. She is a former student of the Dr. Phillips Dance Magnet, where she toned her skills in Ballet, Jazz and Modern. She is a former student of Spotlight where she took Ballet and Pointe. Teresa is currently a senior at University of Center Florida. She is pursuing a degree in Accounting. She looks forward to continuing teaching at Spotlight for many years to come. BETHANY HASSEN: Tap, 3/4 & 5/6 BTJ Bethany Hassen graduated from Hartford Conservatory in May of 2000 with a diploma in Dance Performance. While in Connecticut, she performed with the Hartt Opera Theater and taught for Dance Connecticut, the Hartford Conservatory, and Northeast School of Performing Arts. She has also studied at Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan and University of the Arts in Philadelphia. In Florida, Bethany has performed in “Funny Girl” at the Mark Two Theater and choreographed “Taming of the Shrew” and “Romeo and Juliet” for the Mount Dora Theater Company. Bethany’s training includes classes in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, lyrical and acrobatics. She continues to perform professionally here in Orlando, including shows with Spotlight Entertainment Company. Her years of teaching experience include beginner through advance levels, with a certification in tap. Spotlight Dance Center is happy to have Bethany back on staff after a two year leave for college.

SICILIANOGym Bio Coming Soon <> WILSON BIEN AIME:Hip Hop Adv., Beg. Breakdancing Wilson Bien-Aime was born in Miami, Florida and later moved to Orlando at the age of 9. He started dancing at the age of 3 after being inspired by none other than the king of pop, Michael Jackson. Since then he has strived to be the best dancer he can ever be. It was not until high school that he decided that he should be a well rounded dancer. During his attendance at Dr. Phillips High School, he started to train in the fields of Ballet, Jazz and Modern dancing. Under the watchful eye of the dance instructor of the school, Mrs. Katherine Follensbee, Wilson was introduced into the wonderful world of dance. Since then he has worked with numerous dance affiliated companies such as VOCI Dance Co. and The Orlando Opera. He is now working with a nonprofit organization called Champion of Choices and a few local organizations such as Rhythm & Beat Dance. He’s also working with an upcoming artist known as Mr. J-White. With a name like Bien-Aime (meaning good friend in French) you can’t go wrong. Wilson is continuing his dream on becoming the best he can be and is sharing his experience and knowledge of dancing by teaching at Spotlight Dance Center and enjoying every moment of it. > ALICIA STAGNER: Vocal Alicia Stagner has resided in Orlando Florida since 2005. Her love for the arts started at age 5 when she was enrolled in her first dance class. Alicia has had years of classical training in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Modern and Pointe and is excited to be back at home in a dance studio. She has performed in countless dance competitions and recitals throughout Central Florida and has had the honor to dance roles such as Snow Queen, Chinese, Marzipan, and Flowers lead in various Nutcrackers. While attending Flagler Palm Coast High School Alicia was part of the "Dazzlers" dance team and became heavily involved in the chorus department. This is when she "found" her voice and with the guidance of her choir director Alana Fitzgerald began competing, scoring superior ratings throughout high school. She also traveled to New York to sing at Carnegie Hall with a select group from her choir. While in high school Alicia performed with roles in Little Shop of Horrors - Be Bop Girl, Anything Goes - an Angel and Mirrete - as Gaby. When the time came Alicia auditioned for Stetson University's music department and graduated with a Bachelor of Music with an outside emphasis in Psychology. While at Stetson she performed in numerous Operas including: La Rondine (Puccini), Blodwen (Parry), with roles in Die Fledermaus - Sally (Strauss), Dido & Aeneas - Dancer (Purcell), Songs For A New World - Women 1 (Brown) and as the choreographer for Merry Wives Of Windsor (Nicolai). In addition to performing at Stetson, Alicia studied privately with Mrs. Molly Rich and Dr. Stephen Ng. And competed at NATS and other voice related competitions while teaching Tap, Jazz and Ballet at a local dance studio in the evenings. She has been teaching private voice lessons at Spotlight since 2006 and is extremely excited to be a part of the Spotlight team and loves working with such a great group of individuals. Carlton’s performing highlights have included: a season at Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma; Special Events Dancer for Tokyo Disneyland; performing with Jean Ann Ryan Productions aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines; and seven Equity contracts as a dancer for Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando, Florida. He has also appeared in productions for The Dallas Opera, The Orlando Opera, and televised specials for Disney. ... As a Choreographer, Carlton has staged production numbers and provided choreography for Star Wars Weekends; ESPN-The Weekend; ABC Super Soap Weekend; and The Power Rangers at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. As a former Staging Specialist with Disney, he has assisted with the maintenance of several shows and parades including: Block Party Bash; High School Musical – School’s Out!; and Jedi Training Academy. Other roles in his career have included: Assistant Stage Manager for the touring company of American Jukebox and Field Coordinator for “The Daytona 500 Pre-Race Show” televised on Fox. Carlton is currently teaching Adult Beginner jazz classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8:00pm, and Adult Intermediate/Advance jazz on Thursday evenings at 6:30pm. He is a self-professed “theatre geek,” and admires the talents of Bob Fosse, Fred Astaire, and Gene Kelly; while his mentors include Luigi, J. David Kirby, and Max Stone. Carlton is proud to be on staff at Spotlight Dance Center, and looks forward to seeing you in class! |
